1 October and the first day for going sober if you are going for the Sober for October challenge?! Good luck to those of you who are.
I’ve been sober for 18 months and from a personal point of view, I wanted to give you a few tips to help you along the way.
The first week is easy, you have set your mind that you are not going to drink alcohol for a month and you are determined to do it.
Make sure you have an alternative non alcoholic drink to hand that you know you are going to enjoy drinking for the next month.
Water can get boring after a while, but adding a slice of lemon, lime or a piece of fruit, can make it more interesting and more enjoyable.
Try not to replace the alcohol with a sugary fizzy drink - I know it’s not alcohol but drinking fizzy drinks ain’t going to do you much good either with so much sugar in them, giving you a high at first and then a slippery low. Try and stick to the water if you can.
Stay positive. Say to yourself something positive everyday to help you keep on track, for example ‘I can do this. I am strong and determined to be sober this month’
As you progress through the month, notice how you feel. How does your mind and body feel? Do you feel better for not drinking? and do you have more energy?
Who knows after a month, you may feel you want to do it for a few more weeks/months or never again!
This is your personal challenge, however you want to do it and Im sending you all positive vibes to those of you who are going sober in October.
Taking care of you.
